High-profile actors and actresses have received media attention recently for their roles in a college entrance scam. Enforcement officers arrested multiple members of the Hollywood elite. Prosecutors charged the actors with crimes connected to their rolls in a scandal that allegedly involved parents cheating the college entrance exam process, often hiring others to take the exam on behalf of their children.

More than just actors – prosecutors search for other alleged offenders: Well-known entertainers were not the only ones partaking in the criminal scandal. State prosecutors recently charged a physician and his wife with their role in the scam. The criminal charges they face include conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

Prosecutors accuse physician of involvement in the scam: The state claims the couple transferred $25,000 into an individual’s account. Although the transfer was allegedly structured to look like a donation to a charitable organization, the prosecution contends the money actually went to pay for another to take an admissions test in their son’s place. The individual paid to take the test would then promise to score high enough to gain entrance for their son into the school of his choice.

If convicted, the physician could face criminal penalties like fines and potential imprisonment. In addition to criminal penalties, he could also face disciplinary measures from the Medical Board. This could include suspension or revocation of his medical license.

Allegations of criminal activity extend beyond the immediate penalties that come with a conviction — they can also have a negative impact on your career. As a result, it is important to take the allegations seriously and contact an attorney experienced in medical licensing issues.
